The JASON’s Editorial Office publishes one magazine on international security annually, as well as online articles. As Editor-in-Chief, you will lead the Editorial and Writers’ Committees and are ultimately responsible for the publications and activities of the Editorial Office. As Editor-in-Chief, you are also a member of the JASON Institute’s Executive Board.

Responsibilities:

The main tasks of an Editor-in-Chief at the JASON Institute are:

• Final responsibility for the coordination, publication, and editing process of the JASON Magazine;
• Responsibility for the coordination, publication, and editing process of the online Sunday Reads and other online content;
• Maintaining contact with the (final) editors, graphic designer, publishing company, other Executive Board Members and external parties during the editing and publication process of the Magazine;
• Leading the Editorial Office, including the recruitment of new editors and writers, cultivation of magazine partnerships, organisation of editorial meetings, activities, and writing workshops;
• Active participation within the Executive Board concerning the direction of the JASON Institute and the Magazine;
• Close cooperation with your co-Editor-in-Chief.

Requirements:

• We are looking for a student or recent graduate;
• Affinity with the topics covered by the JASON Institute: international peace and security, a background in these fields is not a requirement but an advantage;
• Living in the Leiden-The Hague area, or willing to travel here on a frequent basis;
• Excellent writing skills in English, experience in writing and editing, preferably within a team. 
• Experience with journalism is preferred;
• Experience with leading a team and coordinating projects is a considerable advantage;
• Available for at least 6 hours a week, for the period of minimum of 1 year (workload fluctuates throughout the year, flexibility is required);
• Enthusiasm to be active for the JASON Institute!

Due to the fragile international security climate, JASON considers it vital to keep students and young-professionals informed on matters of international peace and security. The current security challenges the international community is facing are significant and unprecedented, and acts to inform students and young-professionals – the leaders of tomorrow – on those threats is pivotal. JASON primarily engages with students and young professionals by means of organising interactive and instructional events with leading (international) experts. Through these activities JASON tries to challenge students and young-professionals – regardless of their sex, age, descent, cultural and religious beliefs – to think about the impact of international peace and security challenges. The JASON Institute, dedicated to informing students and young professionals about international peace and security issues, is seeking an enthusiastic and creative PR Manager. JASON provides a vital platform for constructive dialogue through regular events, magazines, and an annual conference.

As a PR Officer, you will be responsible for enhancing the visibility of our organization. Additionally, you will serve as a member of the JASON Institute’s Executive Board, where your active contributions will be expected and valued.

Responsibilities:

• Managing our website and social media channels
• Developing and widely distributing both online and offline promotional materials for our events and publications (e.g., contacting various studies to share promotional material)
• Working closely with the activities committee and the editorial team of the foundation for promotional purposes
• Actively contributing to the strategic direction of the foundation, including participating in the creation of both short-term and long-term policy plans

• An affinity with international peace and security

• Preferably residing in the Randstad area (or willing to travel regularly to The Hague)
• Available for 6-8 hours per week for a period of at least one year (time commitment varies per week, depending on tasks)
• Able to attend evening meetings and JASON activities in The Hague;
